What about a Brazilian Rainbow Boa? They tend to have a bit more finicky requirements, but they are gorgeous animals. Although I'm not sure how plentiful they are in your neck of the woods? Then there are Hogg Island boas, which stay on the smaller side. But finding a pure Hogg can be difficult, and if they're crossed, they can grow larger.

Get a male Hogg island boa if you want a smaller one. I think they max at about 6 feet. Normal BCI are awesome too. Males of most of the Boids tend to be smaller than females. So if size is a worry, go male.
I have a juv female BCI and she is amazing to handle, interact with, and to show off. Boas get a bad rap about being mean and nasty but in my experience that's not the case. I would suggest boa.

Regular old Boa Constrictor Imperators are fantastic. If you got a male it would stay smaller and could be kept in a 4'x2' enclosure as an adult. At least, most can. I have a BCI and Dumeril's Boa, and while I love both, nothing compares to the amazing personality of my BCI. She LOVES to be handled and is so curious and intelligent. I would suggest a male BCI. They should definitely be in your price range....where a Hog Island may not. They are not as easy to find and as a result tend to be more expensive.

Yeah im struggling to even find anyone that breeds pure hogg islands. I think Im going to get a male BCI, they are beautiful snakes and as males only grow to around 8ft I will have a little room to spare if he gets larger than that. Thanks everyone for your help and if you have any other suggestions I'd love to hear them

Males actually usually hover around 6ft. So well within the size limits you're comfortable with. There are several morphs that should be within your price range as well. Now you just have to figure out which one you like best! lol. Best of luck finding your new snakey! Boas are awesome and I really think you'll enjoy him. Don't forget to post pics when you get him though!

Weird, I thought I posted here an hour or two ago, well here's the post I thought I posted:
A Carpet Python wouldn't be a bad choice, they hover around 6-10 ft, the Irian Jaya Carpet Python stays around 3-6 ft (?). GTP's aren't bad either.
