Re: How long can i leave water (Vacation)

I'm actually experimenting with a Magnaturals water dripper for when I go on vacation. They drop into a small corner bowl for constant water. Im using both the valves it comes with to make an extremely slow drop. It holds two cups of water and so far I can stretch it over a week. The only problem is the unit is larger than I thought.

My original plan was to have it drop onto leaves over the water bowl so no matter what the leaves would provide fresh water. The unit is just to tall for that and for right now I have it dropping into the main bowl.

My idea for this was that having a secondary water source in a bowl that is to small for my guy to get into would mean he wouldn't mess it up and would only drink from it. One problem I could see in using newspaper if the bowl was to fill and run over. I use ZooMed Forest Floor so alittle water won't hurt it anyways. I wet mine and stir it up every once in awhile to help my humidity anyways.

I always over prepare, boy scout mentality. I think having a regular corner bowl on the cool side would be just fine. They are hard to tip and shouldn't evaporate to much on the cool side.

Make a test run. Set up your tank with water as if you were leaving for a week. Mark the date and see how it is a week later.

When I was young I lost an animal because the water device broke while I was away. I won't let that happen again.

    One is none. Over prepare.

I'm pretty sure that's it. I don't own any animals myself, but, that's what my friend does before he goes on vacation.

    Outhouse

I recently added the Exo-Terra Snake Cave to my viv. Its nice but my ball seems to think it is an outhouse. Always does his business in the same corner of it. I Really don't mind though. Cleanup is easy and the tank stays fresh.

Correct while rare it can happen and should a regurge happen while gone it would not be something pleasant to come back to.
