That hide also looks like it really would old moisture. They something that may be more porous. Bottom of clay pot, cereal box, etc.

Pythons and snakes in general do not urinate wet like mammals. Their kidneys pass only dry urates, this is definitely not a case of evaporating urine condensing under the hide.

Besides, the amount of urine you would need for condensation to build inside the hide would smell awful WAY before it started condensing.

My BP always urinate wet a long with the urates. I have never had urates without some sort of wetness. You are correct though, there would most definately be a smell. Of course I can only answer the smell since I use paper as a substrate, I don't know if aspen could possibly mask it.

maybe his ball is soaking in the water.. going under the hide maybe?
have you saw your python soaking in the water or anything like that?

Maybe you could go to dollar tree and get a cheap, small bowl and cut a hole in it to use as a hide. See if a different hide has the same effect. If you use the bowl idea make sure you kind of use a lighter along the edges where you cut in order to smooth out and sharp areas.

I just got him yesterday lol he hasnt come out of his hide as of yet. I'm assuming he's still pretty freaked out from shipping and being in a new home

I thought it had to be 90% or more to have condensation .....
I added aluminum foil to the screened top of my tank untill I had condensation, then I trimmed away some foil to increase ventilation on the side where the condensation happened.

Not knocked over a bowl, simply made a mess crawling in and out of water. Maybe you spilled some water moving around.


As for the urates, the point in, they do not urinate like mammals. It is primarily a dry-ish substance that will not produce condensation, but will smell

While the latter part is probably true, the first part is not. Snakes do pass liquid urine as well as urates.
