United Way's New Ad Campaign... Not Nice to Reptiles.

Mods, Feel free to move this to QT if it is too sensitive.
I saw this article on Kingsnake.com about the United Way of Milwaukee's use of reptiles and rats in their new ad campaign.

And rats, my other favorite animal.

I am used to people not understanding or even hating my pets but this is a little far.

Most of my friends refuse to come over because I have snakes. Like what I just let them hang out on my couch?! I dont need them anyways! I got my snakes! lol... But it still frustrates me cuz I like to have company and bbqs and stuff....

The ads don't even make sense just trying to get a reaction out of people at reptile owner's expenses. Ridiculous, to the point of stupidity

Well, I am not going to bash them too hard. I am pretty certain their intent wasn't to insult snake and rat owners. These type of people are often referred to as "sexual predators." And what better predator than a snake?

And you know, I really don't think any of you would have cared if the pictures would have been a little girl with a Tiger or Wolf snarling next to her.

I still don't like it because of the possible negative side effects already mentioned. But I don't think it's as bad as some of you make out.

I think what bothers me most is that a little girl holding a burmese python should be a positive image, and not something portrayed as a "predator" situation. We try so hard to put great pictures out there to show that the animals can be handled responsibly and then an ad like this comes out =/ probably doesn't have such as huge of an effect as we think, but it still greatly disturbs me

I wish I had faith in the general population to be smart enough to cut through this kind of BS, but I don't.

It's pretty sad because it should seem fairly obvious to anyone with a brain that rats and snakes literally aren't even capable of thinking anything 'immoral.' Furthermore, rats and snakes don't participate in beastiality by choice.

What kind of man preys on little girls? A man... not a snake.

What kind of man preys on little girls who own huge burms or hordes of rats that they keep with them? None.

That said, 'rat' and 'snake' are words that hold multiple meanings and lots of negative connotation in our society. I'm not about to rip on United Way for second-handedly perpetuating them.

What's sad is a bunch of people sat around a table and shot ideas around for their ad campaign and they agreed on this. SMH!
