I've got tomatoes, an unknown pepper plant that I got from the Romanians here (they have a small garden as well), green onions, garlic, dill, rosemary, tarragon and thyme. Still waiting on the herbs to sprout as I just planted them! I'll throw some pictures up at some point.

You could do a raised bed, and buy soil from Walmart. Depending on how much you wanna grow it wouldn't cost too much, and you could start some summer plants this year like peas and summer squash.

(sorry for the crappy rock pile, part of a patio area were building.)
And heres a pic of 2 of the 3 trees we chopped down to allow more light into the garden. I took them down with just a machete and axe. Axe Men: Connecticut Style! (that crappy wood pile is getting move up to the corner of the yard on Saturday. I just cleared an area of brush for it today.)
And the pile of crap from the 3 trees we cut down! Its about 10feet high.

Is that electrical fencing?

I have a small garden in pots this year as a result of being deployed but at least I have one! And no tomatoes!? I will not tolerate such blasphemy here! LOL I have always grown tomatoes and there is nothing like taking a bite of a fresh tomato right after you pick it while it is still warm from the sun that was shining on it when it came off the vine.
Warm tomatoes right off the vine are the best!!! I wish I could grow cantalope, don't think it would do well here. We do green beans, tomatoes, zuchinni, and then I have all my berry plants. I love fresh grown food, tastes so much better!
