I tried substrate-less this year and it's not for me either. After 2 weeks the eggs were already dimpling so I buried them in vermiculite. The dimpling has since filled back out except 2 eggs that are keeping a couple minor depressions each. I'm glad I at least tried it and I know people have much success with this method, it's just not for me. Just knowing those eggs are nestled safely down in that substrate helps me rest easy at night.
