But is the UTH regulated by a thermostat? If it is not it can (and will) get hot enough to kill your snake.

Also what type of thermometers are you using. If you are using the stick on, dial type they will need to be replaced with a digital thermometer with a probe.
UTH's do not change the air temperature in the cage so unless you have a probed thermometer with the probe sitting on the floor of the cage you have no way of telling hot hot it is. (and if it isn't being regulated by a thermostat they can get up to 120+ degrees)
Here is a good probed thermometer. These can be purchased at Walmart for $12. They measure 2 temperatures and humidity so you only need 1 for the cage.
If you can't find that one, this will also work.
