They will definitely eat while incubating but I always thought they come off the eggs first. This is a pretty cool shot.

I've always thought that maternal incubation = no eating. Guess that's what I get for thoughting.........
Cool pic!!

I can't keep up with what I have

I've had some females still in 'incubating' mode after eggs were taken, eat--so this doesn't surprise me. I'm not sure how common it is--snakes are all individuals. Some of them will absolutely not eat until eggs hatch, others are not quite so fussy.

Re: Hmmm.............
Well, I guess the general concensus from the forum "experts" (not just here but on other sites) is that this photo is nothing special. Sorry! I thought it was a cool picture.

Its still an awesome picture. But i could have sworn that ive heard people say they have snakes that eat while incubating so i dont think its that rare.
I would think she would have come off the eggs to eat though lol, such a dedicated mommy!

Nope. I opened the tub to check on her and saw she had that "feed me" look. Since I was feeding the other animals, I had a thawed rat to try her with. She struck, coiled and ate without ever leaving the eggs.

I guess good eaters will eat no matter what!
Cool photo, wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it myself

Gotta love the instincts though. She has eggs so she wants to protect them, but she's hungry so she thinking... I can use 2 ft of myself to kill and still use the rest to wrap.

Re: Hmmm.............
Quiet Tempest (or something like that) has threads on here with snakes on eggs constricting and eating. It happens, just don't see it as often since few people do maternal incubation.
But still a nice pic
