Cypress. I have a custom cage and it hold humidity well and ballences out the CHE heat source.

i use aspen and mulch mixed together, mainly to keep up humidity and help with the shedding process

I have friends and family that have used pine for decades and never had a problem with it for birds and reptiles. I just used the paper towels because I always have them.
