What to do when dinner the live mouse isn't eaten.

So thinking Lucy may be hungry after her recent shed (which btw was the most awesome thing EVER she did it in one piece!) i went to the store and got her a fuzzy delectable treat which my boys referred to as dinner! So tossed dinner in the cage and watched a moment and ....she did nothing! DInner did back flips over her..sat on her face and still she did nothing...ok you little hussy maybe you don't want to be watched so i took the lot into another left her for about 45 minutes still nothing. So now what? Can i keep him in a critter keeper overnight and toss him in with her tomorrow? I know i know don't get attached to food but i'll be darned if the little fuzzball isn't cute. Don't want to freeze him since she refuses f/t Any ideas? Thank you.

Why wouldn't you keep it in the critter keeper?

First off, you aren't leaving that rodent with your Bp unattended are you?

You have 2 options, keep the rodent or kill it (sticking it in the freezer is a terrible death please do not do this)

Keep it in a critter keeper for a week. Some bedding, food, and water. We have the occasional "pet" from time to time, until someone eats. Every once in awhile you get lucky and they are preggers, and have babies before your snake eats.

If this rodent is not yet weaned, it's as good as dead anyway. If it is weaned, keep it around until the next scheduled feeding and try again.

BTW, I name every live feeder I purchase...I name them all Dinner

My wife names all of our feeder rats in our racks. She'll come home, "Where is "So & so"?". My response is usually limited because I have no clue who she is talking about. "One of the snakes probably ate it."

If you have your snake long enough you'll get used to keeping feeders as pets sometimes and not getting attached. Some will grow on you and you will love them and end up keeping them, though. Our oldest pet rat, Misty, was meant to be a feeder. Glad our ball refused her because she has been an amazing family member and breeder!

So as they have said, toss the little guy in your critter carrier, give it some food and water and wait til next week.

Well the kids named him Monty and he even went to school today! LOL He is definitely male (my sons pointed this out in their classrooms and even showed their friends!) So he'll be kept until next week. He is a full grown fella and i suppose we'll get him a wife and as my son's kindergarten teacher put "get married and have a family"! LOL Soooo Monty the mouse got a stay of execution! LOL
