"Bigger is better" and "Everyone and their mom has one and they are just so dull" were some of the comments I heard...

Not seeing the belittling in the OP's post.

Again, who gives a crap about one idiot's opinion? Or the collective opinion of a group of idiots? Do you seriously think that getting indignant and arguing is going to change anyone's mind?

I think ball pythons are boring. I think paying thousands of dollars for a snake that will plummet in value is ridiculous and I think anyone who is insulted by those twin statements needs to toughen up (and also read up on the definition of "Ponzi" scheme while they are at it). Everyone is entitled to their opinions and I don't really care to hear an opinion by someone whose self worth is so paper thin that they feel the need to change MY opinion in order for them to feel better about themselves and the choices they've made.

Now let me insult some of the giant snake keepers while I'm at it: if you think that your manhood or your "toughness" is defined by the animals you keep, you'd be better off investing your snake money in a string of therapy sessions to deal with your esteem issues. I work with a gay guy who takes pictures of hummingbird nests and breeds pomeranians as his hobbies and who also is a fairly successful MMA fighter. So much for macho stereotypes.
