ill admit ball pythons are boring as watching paint dry! but thats why i have them they will relax with me while i sit around or be on the comp, while they are around my neck. but i also have my female carpet, that would never do that she likes to explore everything(aka get into anything she can) so bps are a great change of pace when i want to just relax as I'm holding one, and not have to keep an eye on what there doing or destroying. and plus show me a snake or reptile that comes in almost any color combo you can think of, like a bp does.

Not to upset anyone with bigger snakes, they are all cool. However, one is not better than the other.

I am happy with my balls, and boa.

Ball pythons may be boring in their low activity and sometimes fickle feeding response but they're rockstars in regards to their multitude of color and pattern combinations. As far as size, it's my opinion that they're just right.

I LOVE ball pythons...but I also LOVE retics. I went to Bob Clark's warehouse today and got to see a lot of amazing snakes, both balls and retics, including his pied retics which are just ridiculous! I like I have a little variety though.

I have to say there are always a few out there that criticize and must believe they own the best of everything so they can make up for other shortcomings in life. I have cooworkers that believe it it such a macho thing to have a pet snake and don't understand how truly amazing and shy balls are. They think it is an aggresive eating machine but I do my best to softly educate them.

I did a ton of reading on many jeeps before deciding on a family friendlyp
Per that will be a good fit with our 7 year old daughter. BP' are the perfect pet for us. I love the color, patterns, adult size and especially the friendly/docile nature. They only downside IMO is the fickle feeding. There is a reason why we have freedom of choice. Some just need to stop exercising their freedom of speech before thinking of others.

Some need to stop getting so worked up over someone else's opinion.

Yes and no. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, it's when that that opinion is voiced with the intent to belittle others that they need to be set straight.

The idea of owning any snake, whether it's big or small, to be more "macho" has been one of those ideas I never understood. From the way the OP described it that seemed to be the attitude of the guy, and I have no real comment on it. However, I know there are some opinions out there that ball pythons (and other staple reptiles) are awful because they take the focus off less flashy/popular species. I can almost understand that, seeing as someone would probably have a better opportunity to pick up a pretty co-dom designer morph ball than to take a look at something like a Savu python or one of the smaller West Indian boas.

At the same time, ball pythons were my gateway drug. Yes, I love and want to breed my ball pythons, sell off whatever offspring I don't hold back, and it'll probably be a large part of my efforts. But through owning them and getting involved in the hobby I have a much better idea of reptile care in general as well as what's going on in current events as far as herps go. I now want to expand my efforts into things like pine snakes, savu pythons, non-integrade carpets, some old world rat snakes.... list goes on infinitely and that isn't going into tarantulas, amphibians, and lizards yet!

Opinions are opinions, mean spirited or not, and I wouldn't worry too much about it. Put on a big smile and let them know you have your own opinion as well
