Talking First hatchling of 2012.... and it's a SWEET one!

My first baby snake of 2012 has hatched! This one is a corn snake. I'm still waiting for my my ball python girls to lay. Anyway, this baby is from an amel motley 66% possible het cinder female bred to a peppermint het motley male. I'm pretty sure this baby is a PEPPERMINT MOTLEY, which are still extremely rare. I will be able to to tell for sure after he sheds and when I have some siblings hatching to compare him to. Anyway, I'm pretty excited!

Re: First hatchling of 2012.... and it's a SWEET one!

Thank you for the nice comments! For those of you not very familiar with corns, peppermint is double morph combination of the amel (albino) gene with the fairly new cinder (anery C) gene. They are one of the few types of snakes out there that are pink, which is a very popular color among corn keepers. Personally I like peppermints a lot better than the high pink snow corns that you see more commonly, because the peppermints are a brighter pink and don't develop any yellow pigments long their sides with age. Motley is the pattern morph which gives mine the dots down his back, so a peppermint motley is a triple recessive morph, and to my knowlege only two others have ever been produced. There are six more eggs in this clutch, and they all look good but are taking their sweet time to start pipping. I can't wait to see what else hatches out!
