None taken!! I usually forget to consider the attitude of the snake sometimes since their wild animals and theres no guarantees, but i do see how its important to some.

I've always loved Brazilian Rainbow Boas and one is definitely on my want list. I saw a BEAUTIFUL sub-adult BRB at a show about a year back that I should have grabbed. She was docile as can be and did I mention she was gorgeous? The guy only wanted $115 for him too.....

This thread is relevant to my interests.

What does the weight on a Hog Island get to? The Dumeril's seems pretty small and most places say they won't break 6 feet, but when people post weights they're 16-20 lbs. That's 7000 grams!

I want a boa that's puppy dog tame that's the smallest size step up from a BP.

Is the Hog Island a little more slender bodied than the Dum's? Do BCI prefer to have height to their enclosure or are they happy in tubs?

Dumerils are ground boa so they are heavier bodied even though they do not get as long as a BCI. Hog Islands are about the same length (roughly 6ft), but do not weigh quite as much. Its important to remember that size is relative and some individuals of both species can get quite large or stay smaller than the average.

Either would be a good choice for a smaller pet boa.

    Re: Best type of boa

    I love the Nic's.
I have a few myself, though some can be more tempermental than others it really all depends on the snake as an individual.
I have been lucky with mine and they are all wonderful. They are absolutly beautiful and if your not a fan of the size that say a BCI would get these are perfect.

#1) Some of the smallest of the BCI's are:
    -Caulker Cay
    -Tarahumara
    -Tamaulipas

#2) Most BCI are semi-arboreal, and will gladly perch on any elevated items
    that you provide them.

You can always get a male boa and that will make a world of difference in terms of size. At least most of the time. There are always exceptions to the rule, but if you wanted small and slender, I'd go with a male Hog Island. That would most likely stay small.
