As lame as that is, i wouldnt worry about it. Shes lucky she has a job. If I were YOU, I would cook her favorite meal and have it ready for her when she gets home. Buy her favorite flowers or chocolates or ball python lol. Have some romantic music playing, light some candles, rose petals on the bed... You know where im going with this

Didn't she just get this job? I would be happy she has one. And just do something special for her when she gets home. Maybe dinner and a nice foot rub.

Very true, and a little ironic considering today was my last day of work. The Air Force cut my position along with about 45 others at the base I've been working at. Tomorrow will be the first day in the last 27 years that I have not had a job.

I'd love to have a schedule to get jerked around on....

I work in an industry notorious for both jerks and last minute schedule changes, and it has affected plans of mine a countless number of times. It's all I really know how to do, and until I find a way out, I have many plans to have many plans of mine interrupted at a moment's notice....gotta roll with it.

I'm sorry, but your answer makes me angry. It's attitudes like this that make companies feel they are justified in treating their employees like a disposable commodity. Just because you do not have a job does NOT excuse employers who feel they can violate labor laws whenever they feel like it. Laws that are there to protect people like YOU when you finally do find a job.

I agree with you. Yes, be thankful she has work but do not become complacent with being treated like crap.

Thats like saying "my creepy boss grabs my butt every time I walk by but I'm just glad I have a job so it's ok."

They will use this to set precedence and if they get away with it now, they will most likely abuse it in the future.

In my line of work (nurse) I get called in all of the time for people who call off. Sucks, but when all is said and done someone has to take care of the people.

Waaay back, when I was still married, I got called in on Christmas afternoon shift. It sucked. However, when I got off and back home at midnight, there was a dinner ready, and my husband had evidently spent the 10 hours I was away, with travel time, totally cleaning the house. There wasn't a bit of laundry to be done, the house was spotless...it was the Best. Christmas. Ever. I didn't have to lift a finger except to pick up a fork. And we still went out and celebrated the next day when I was off work.

This cuts both ways. Yes, be grateful she has a job, many who need one don't. Yes, be crabby they are jerking you around, that's a crummy way to be treated.

Your best bet is for her to work as agreed, but she should CALMLY speak to a supervisor about the difficulty in adjusting her life to so many drastic changes. If she is calm, dignified and speaks in a rational manor, chances are good that someone will look into this rather ridiculous flip-flopping of her work schedule and if things go your way, they won't let it happen again.

This method worked for me very well with three different managers. Sometimes the lead supervisor has no idea what the scheduling person does, as long as the positions get filled when they need to be.

Besides, it's just another day of the week. You can easily make any day something special, the calendar doesn't control that.

I'm not well versed in the labor laws, federal or state to state. In my line of work, changes in schedule are not a violation of anything. I work in an "at will" environment. I'm free to leave when I'd like for any reason, and can be terminated at any time for any reason. If I'm not willing to be flexible, then the powers that be won't be willing to let me keep my job.

I'm sorry, but schedule changes and ass grabbing are not in the same atmosphere...not at all.

Mason, now I'm curious...did your wife ask for the day off and have signed approval of it, or is it simply just short notice schedule changing?
