Best Display Herp?

For a larger snake I say a carpet. They are semi arboreal but if given something to climb on and perch on, they will almost always be on it. A nice display cage that is high enough for perches or branches would look great.

I was just about to suggest this. I just got my first carpet this Saturday, and she's almost always out on her stick right up against the glass, exploring the ground near the back, or curled up in her water bowl. I've only seen her hiding once so far.

Not to mention she's freaking BEAUTIFUL. And the perfect size. If you want a smaller one, go Irian Jaya, and if you want a big gal, get a female coastal. And then there are all the other subspecies and hybrids in between.

GTB look great, but for my money you can't beat a nice big snake just sitting in their enclosure. Give me a big red tail boa, Retic, or burm any day.

True you will always see them. But Gtp's are way better looking. lol

For me, there is a difference between "most impressive" and "best display".

My boas are impressive animals. I never get tired looking at them and handling them and they are a blast to show off. But their enclosures are fairly drab - simple setups with only 2 hides, paper substrate, and a water bowl. Plus, they do use their hides so they aren't just laying out there all the time to look at.

My GTP is by far the better display animal. His enclosure makes a wonderful and colorful centerpiece in my living room and he never hides. All in all, it makes a better, more encompassing picture - which is what you want a "display" to be.

Of course, each person has their own opinions on the specific animal in a "display" and if you made a huge enclosure and built natural wood perches, water feature, greenery, etc for a red-tail boa or burm, then there's certainly a WOW factor there too! But for me, it's not just about the animal - it's the whole picture that you want to create....

GTP or an Emerald. They are the best display animals and there cages can be set up to the extreme when it comes to a display piece.
