My 8 months old Hog Island girl is in the tub since January. No problem in shedding or eating. She will be in the different size tubs until she reach 4 years old.
I only have my bps in a tub. We just got a columbian boa and he will be in a custom made enclosure. Boas get larger and don't hide like a bp, so they need room.
If nothing ever changed, there would be no butterflies.
She's not a hog island, but I keep my 2yr old 5 foot BCI in a 116qt Sterilite tub and she seems to have plenty of space at the moment. It has a lot of height and is sturdy. Planning on upgrading her to a custom cage (either 4x2x2 or 6x2x1) within the next 18 months. I'm sure a hog would feel right at home in a tub setup for a long time.
My Hog and other Colombians are in tubs, and once they get big enough they'll be going into actual enclosures with RHPs. I see people keeping adult boas in tubs and think it can work (I've had no problems so far), but I would recommend an actual cage once they get big enough. A 4' cage should be perfect for a Hog.

Mine is six months old and living comfortably in a tub. She'll be there until I can afford her boaphile.
