The stick-on gauges aren't accurate at all, you should just have the accurite buried in the foliage and push some leaves aside to see it. Or move it to the front of the tank and just let it sit on top of the substrate.

x2!!! The stick-on gauges are a waste of money - they are totally inaccurate. Just move some leaves aside and put the Accurite down at the bottom. Trust us, you will appreciate having it there in the long run.

I would just like to say that it is super refreshing to see someone getting everything ready for their new pet (properly), and doing the proper research BEFORE they purchase it!

Don't forget if you are going to feed f/t rodent pro is always their. Great feeders and so much cheaper than shipping. I drive up from Canton massillon area. Saves money and I get to go to the show every couple of months! Good luck and have fun.

Thanks for the advice guys, I guess I will bypass the stick on temp guage idea and just try to position the accurite on the floor on the cold side.

I have to say, good job doing your research and getting properly prepared before you bring your snake home! That's awesome that you did that. You will have a happy snake. One thing you might consider is a different hide rather than the half log. Those aren't secure enough for bps. The best ones are the black ones from reptile basics. If you can't get those, then maybe a rock hide with just one hole in the front. Those logs will also mildew over time from the moisture. Definately post pictures of your new baby when you get it! Congratulations, and welcome to the addiction! You had better get started on your next tank now........

Thanks doc for the ideas, I was somewhat worried about log hide being not secure enough and changed it out for a rock hide. I will def take pics of the new addition once we get it and hopefully I can resist the urge to get another tank or snake. I think one will do fine for quite awhile until I get to know more. Are you saying these little guys are addicting.

Another option is to leave your Acurite where it is, to measure the humidity and hot spot. Get a second Acurite that you can velcro outside the tank and run the probe to near the substrate on the cool side (inside), to measure ambient temps. The probe will take up less space than squeezing the whole unit near the floor, and be much more accurate than the dial-type.

My advise would be to just mod the accurite, no need to buy another.

There is a thread somewhere on here for that. I did it, and it was plain awesome.

I think your right anna I might as well just buy another accurite and place the probe on the floor on the cold side. It will at least give me piece of mind. I did look at the mods for the accurite but Im pretty sure I would break something in the process of trying to mod it lol.
