Where to get dry ice or CO2?

Sorry for such a dumb question but I have no clue where to buy dry ice or get a CO2 tank. I've read that people buy the one for paintball but I don't think there's anything like that around here. Thanks.

My local grocery store sells dry ice, but I live in a fairly large urban area.

Places like Sports Authority and D i c k's Sporting Goods sell CO2 tanks...where to get them filled is a different matter altogether.

You can also check any welding stores in your area for co2. I get all my fill ups there and the price is great.

X2 for the welding supply company. I just picked up my 10lb cylinder there and it was $140. The plus side is that fillups are nore $15 since I own my own tank. A 10lb cylinder will last a LONG time.

Welding stores mark up everything really high.

I would suggest you look for a place that sells and services fire equipment. They will sell used fire extinguishers at a reasonable price. I picked up a 5 pounder for $50 and a 10 pounder for $65. You can get a regulator with gauges from Amazon for $20-40 that is used with keg fridges. It helps limit the amount of CO2 that comes out and makes it safer to use.

and once you get one bottle, I think you can go into Wal-mart and switch it out for a full one. The price obviously depends on the size of the refill.

I got a 50 lb cylinder from a welding supply place I think. Everything together was around $200.00 - $250.00 for the tank and the gauge ($125) and 2 years later, my gauge is still showing full and the tank feels heavy as hell.

CO2 does not work well with gauges so don't rely on it. It will show full until the day it goes dead. You can only tell what's left in the tank by weighing it. That's why I chose to use two tanks instead of one. I always have a backup.

You can check out brew shops if there are any in the area. Otherwise we only have one grocery store that sells it.. so I would call first.
