Cleaning a snake's wound

All was going well with my friends live feeding, but her bp is not that great at constricting his kill. Tonight, despite constant observation, he got nipped by a rat pup. When do you know what's minor enough to clean up yourself (and besides not using peroxide, what do you use), and when do you seek medical attention? Thanks guys.

Betadyne. No peroxide. Keep the wound clean and watch it. As long as you keep it clean and is not an open wound then you should be good

one of my ball pythons got bit under his lip ..and it got swollen so i just put ice on it and anti bacterial cream for 2 weeks and it got better

no cream bad bad bad. anything oil based will turn the scales into mush. all you need to do is soak your BP in a Betadine bath (Water temperature in the mid 80's) once or twice a day to prevent infection. in time the wounds will heal.

Creams and ointments (neosporine) do not dry out and will cause dust and dirt to stick to the wound, plus the prevent the wound from forming a good scab to protect the wound.

Thanks all I finally got a look at it and its a tiny scratch, not really even a puncture. I found the other thread on here with the pic of the poor munched pastel and sent her to it for all the helpful info.
