Flagyl Question

Hey guys! So I went to the vet with Zeus to have him all checked out. As it turns out he has really high flagulates, aka parasites. Well they gave me two medications for him. One I am just a little concerned about and I wanted some feedback. Its 1 ML Flagyl Suspension 1 dose a day by mouth for 10 days. So a total of 10 MLs in a week and a half. Does that seem high to anyone? Cause the more I look into it... it seems like a pretty high and almost dangerous dosage to me and the last thing I want is to hurt him.

Flagyl is a great product for getting ride of internal parisites. I use to use it when I worked at the vet.

Okay so then that should be right on the money? Cause the person i bought him from is saying that it seems really high. That in all his experience that it only requires one dose every few days and that the dose is too high and will actually hurt him rather than help him. The last thing I want is to harm my snake.

The dose is fine and I doubt you will have any problems. I say doubt not because of the dose or the meds but bc anything is possible. Your dose
Is perfect. I don't see how the seller can say its high it's actually spot on perfect. I'd say they dont have much experience with reptile dosages and medications. And if that's the person you bought him from and he has parasites....... Not a good thing.

Sorry to bump an older thread, but I just wanted to add some information that I found. To the OP, I've been researching this for a few weeks and you can't really say what's the proper dosage with out knowing the concentration of the suspension. If its the 50mg/ml that I've been seeing most often, then you would be giving 50mg per day. The most common dosage I have found says that is too frequent. The common answer appears to be once every two weeks for at least one month at 25mg per kg of ball python. With your snake being 1100 grams, I would treat with appx 30mg, wait two weeks and then dose again.

Based on what I gathered, if it's correct and you were prescribed 50mg/ml suspension, then the dosage is spot on but divided over every week instead of every two weeks. I am not a vet so I can't say if half every week is better than a full dosage every two, but it all comes out to the same amount of medication in the end.
