Agreed - looks like a rodent, smells like a rodent - let's take a bite even if it's too big.

Could end badly if the snake bites the ferret and the ferret reacts in self defense. I don't even let my cats near for fear the snake may mistake the white paw for a mouse.

No mistaking them at all as they're not a rodent either.
I keep snakes, rats, and ferrets in the same room. The snakes never react to a passing ferret and vice versa. However, when one of my rat girls trolls around the room during their playtime, both the snakes and ferrets are up in front of their enclosures and get excited.
Sucks to be the walking food item I guess?

Ferrets stink even when "De-scented." They also have a tendency to bite everything and anything. People keep comparing them to cats but I just don't see letting the free roam.

there seem to be alot of misconceptions about ferrets... its amuses me greatly.

It seems that a lot of snake people think snakes are misunderstood and there is a lot of bad PR / misinformation out there .. and then *Bam .. .. .. Ferrets. Same misunderstandings , same bad PR and sensationalism all coming from people who should know better.

May I ask how many ferrets you have owned or come into contact with to arrive to that statement?

I understand that the smell is subjective and not everyone can stand it.
But its a ferret smell, just like how dogs have a dog smell and cats have a cats smell.

De-scented just means they have had their scent glands removed. These glands are similar to a skunks and allow ferrets to "poof" (not spray) when threatened or overly excited. It doesn't actually change the smell of the ferret's body. Their skin is what produces oils that have the 'odor'. De-scenting just prevents a ferret from 'farting' every once in a while....

Intact males smell much much worse than any fixed ferret. And contrary to popular belief, bathing a ferret makes them smell worse.

My ferrets are free roam when I am home. I haven't had a problem with anything. My dog at my parents' house gets into more trouble than them.

As for biting? Dogs bite. Cats bite. Rabbits bite. Chinchillas bite. Snakes bite. etc etc...

But do all dogs, cats, rabbits, snakes, whatever bite? NO.
It depends on the individual. Just like ferrets.
The only things that have to worry about my ferrets biting are teaser toys, feeder animals, and pairs of socks.

If you said, "Dogs have a tendency to bite everything and anything" or if I said, "Cat's have a tendency scratch everything and anything" then don't you think those statements are a little ignorant?

By all means, if you feel it is responsible to have your BP and anything furry that you don't intend for your BP to eat in close proximity to each other, please continue to do so. Calm down lady. My comments are based on my experience with friends who have ferrets. Maybe those people weren't doing it right. I don't know.

If you're going to try to educate someone about your pet, try not to do it with such anger.
