I mostly use aspen Sanichips. It keeps humidity well and acts like cat litter. I spot clean that when needed and usually a full cleaning once a month.

I have some on paper towels when I run low on aspen or encounter mites. I hate it cause I have to change it every couple days. My kids spill there water a lot and paper towels just don't handle that like you'd think.

I've tried newspaper and that was just an overall bad idea. They'd just get under it or move it away and do their stuff there right on the naked tub. Thereby defeating the purpose of having substrate in the first place.

That's one of the reasons why I use corrugated wrap over straight up paper now. it is much beefier so they can't mess with it as much but is just as easy to keep clean.

If I could find corrugated wrap the exact width of an Iris MCB-L tub, I might consider switching over. I have no problem cutting it to length, but cutting to both length and width is a PITA.

Serpent, where do you get the wrap from? Just checking incase I do decide to change later. I can get packing paper for $4 for 70 sheets.

Slim, where you get that? Is that regualr kraft paper or something else?

Mason, I appreciate the quote sir but I haven't had that problem yet. Plus I got a huge hall of unprinted paper when the movers came to move a friend's household goods when he went to a new duty station and he grabbed it for me. I like free and am willing to take a few minutes to wipe stuff down. I only have three BPs so it doesn't take me very long. I see plenty of folks whose BPs burrow in their aspen, etc and get right on the naked tub also.

I can understand that, my cages are 24 inches deep so the 24" wide stuff works great for me but I probably wouldn't want to cut it if it didn't fit.

Re: How often do you clean?

I switched from paper towels over to unprinted newspaper a month and a half ago or so and have been happy with it. I don't have snakes getting under it much and messing it up. It's incredibly inexpensive.

I clean when it's needed...pretty much as the snakes pass waste, usually once weekly, sometimes twice. I disinfect when I change out paper, and I scrub every other week.

I use newspaper. I change it when it gets soiled. Then disinfect with a bleach solution once a month.

I only have one snake, so I use repti-bark. I spot clean after every poo and deep clean every 2 week to once a month, it really just depends how could my snake decides to be. I think with even the neatest of snakes, a once a month clean is a good idea.

I think once you have 5, 10, 50 snakes.. any substrate that isn't paper towels, newspaper, or something similar just becomes really impractical and waayyy too expensive. I think we have all tried numerous substrates til we found the one we swear by. Really just preference, as long as it isn't cedar, and as long as it's kept clean, there really isn't a wrong answer.

I use a coco husk substrate and spot clean every day fresh water every 2-3 days and disinfect the water bowl weekly.

I do a nose check on the enclosures and clean them when they smell anything but earthy (the smell of the coco coir) and never longer than 2 months for a full clean disinfect.

I have 2 tanks, 3 commercial enclosures, 2 custom enclosures, 2 tubs, and a 5 hole rack one of everything. The rack has just bowl and an odd hide here and there. The rest have hides bowls plants and other stuff. I find the rack still to be the slowest to clean, about 3 hours or so the other enclosures all take about 30 min each. The only thing I dread cleaning is the rack it is very hard on the knees, elbows and back.
