    spider prices

I think I may know why some prices are what they are, but how is it most morphs are pretty much set across the board. I am trying to find spider ball, now I find some adult males with a price of around $600 to $800 but yet there is some I adult males I am seeing from around $150 to $200. Non of them look any better then the others, so I am assuming that the pricing is based on head wobble to no head wobble... Am I assuming right or wrong?

I doubt that the males you are seeing for $600-800 are just spiders. They are most likely het for something as well, which increases price. If an animal is marked down due to extreme wobble or any other undesirable trait, it is usually stated in the ad by the seller.

    Re: spider prices

i paid $70 for mine and there is virtually no wobble...800 for a spider seems impossible 2 me i would say for 800 it would have to be het for somethin really good, 800 for any kind of spider sounds way to much to me im only going by what i have seen tho

    Re: spider prices

do you know any good breeders that have an online store that sell just a normal spider. I would prefer and adult but I am not picky my problem is when I don't have the money to buy, I can find, when I have the money I can't find anything. Right now I am looking at RoyalConstrictorDesigns and the cheapest I can find is 175

Ok I am going to ask something stupid here because I am still new to morphs. I know its not a spider, but what do yall think of this guy, I am think thinking of this being bred to my normal female. If I did this what would I get its a pastel, and if I remember correctly there is nothing that is het for a pastel, right?

A lot of the people on this site have websites, just check out their signatures. You can also look at market.kingsnake.com and faunaclassifieds.com. My recommendation is to save your money and pick the one you like the best, instead of worrying too much about getting a "great deal." This is an animal you'll have for 20-30 years, so you should definitely get the one you want. Bigger breeders may have higher prices, but you're also buying a solid reputation for care of their animals, health, customer service, and a future contact for any questions or concerns. I never would have sold my spider males for $80 - I felt they were worth more than that, and I haven't heard otherwise from the folks that paid the higher price. If you need to save a little money, wait until there is a reptile show near you and shop there - that will save you the extra $50 in shipping costs.

Added: That's a really nice pastel! Pastel is a codominant gene, which means half his offspring will look like him, and half will be normal if you bred him to a normal female. Check out the Morph List on www.worldofballpythons.com for more info on all the morphs, as well as BP.net's Guide to Ball Python Morphs (click "Forums" on the left of the screen and scroll down).

One more thing, and I apologize if I'm misunderstanding you, but are you looking for an adult male because you want to breed this year? If so, please please make sure you are fully prepared for the eggs and hatchlings that will come. I don't want to assume, but it sounds like you have a good bit more research and learning to do before you're ready for that undertaking.

This is what is killing me I want to purchase the guy now. grr I hate having $3300 in my savings with 2300 of set for animal purchases. and trust me I have been window shopping all day. I really want to wait till next weekend because Repticon is going to be here, and I am hoping I can get a couple things extra if I just wait ya know but like my pastor said one wednesday night like things instant and don't want to wait. but I love the idea of what I can get with this and the deals I am working on with a couple reptile stores in my area

actually I am just putting the two together I have someone else that is providing me the incubation and the knowledge that lives a block away from me, and then when they hatch I will have to set up for them, I was just going to introduce another normal male, but a store I am working with will take more...

Also before any assumptions on that these two stores are the only two stores I will trust locally to provide babies to. They house each one by them selves with proper set up. I provide them with frozen feeders. I provide four stores and only these two I will provide if do breed balls for them. One store that I sell frozen feeders to I am about to pull them off my list because they are shady and conduct bad deals selling a lot of normal balls as hets with out proof then it turning out that the snake was just a normal ball

    Re: spider prices

I'm definitely not going to pass judgement on you for selling hatchlings to a good store - LOTS of people do that with local pet stores, especially with normal hatchlings. I just wanted to make sure I put the warning out there that breeding is the easy part. It's everything that comes after that that can get complicated. For example, female becomes eggbound while laying = complication. Transporting eggs from your place to another for incubation = complication. Hatchlings that don't want to eat and have to be tricked, assisted, or even forced = complication. The guy down the street may know his stuff, but the snakes are your responsibility at the end of the day. I'm not trying to scare you, just repeating the need to learn everything you can. As far as breeders, that's a great looking pastel. If you have that much money and want spiders, too, you should look for a well-started bumblebee or killerbee male, since those carry both the pastel and spider genes (just a thought).
