I would have to recommend to anyone using any type of bulb to use " domes" with a ceramic base. Cheap domes with plastic bases are cheap and not up to the task that us reptile keepers need.

I'm talking about the ceramic domes.

All a light dimmer does is turn down the amount of power being used. It is no less "reckless" than running a bulb full blast if the bulb already doesn't put too much heat out. I agree that heat sources should be regulated, but it takes a thermostat to do so. you must have a system that bases the power output based on a measured temperature otherwise it is the exact same thing as running a heat source full blast.
