I wonder if there's too much space in there and they need a smaller enclosure? Most of the ones I've seen locked up are in pretty small tubs and quarters are close enough for them to touch.

they are my het pied pair, and it is my first breeding, so kinda hoping to produce a pied eventually from them.
the cage size is what every breeder over here in the uk has recommended, but if it continues this way might try a smaller cage with them

Not saying it wouldn't be worth a shot, but mine all lock in 41qt tubs. It might be the open headspace more than the overall size of the tub.
