Incubator temperature drops
Hello, i have my incubator set up for royal python clutches and the temps are all about where they need to be, but the tubs at the top are hotter than the ones at the bottom by 2/3F so nothing major but the temps in the tubs all generally range by about 1 or 2F so theyre are mostly usually about 88F but sometimes go up slightly to 89F but sometimes go down to 87F, there is no sudden change its all slow changes in temp is that okay to have temperatures ranging like that?
I am using a pulse stat in 1 tub and using heatcable for the heat
Also, when i open the tubs to let fresh air in they drop from 88F to 84F pretty fast as you would expect then obviously i put the tubs back in and close incubator door and it takes half an hour to get back up to stable temps is that okay?
Any advice on this would be great
Many Thanks, Gary

Lots of water bottles...The best way to maintain temps while working with the tubs is to have as many water bottles in the incubator as possible.
We have water bottles up top and down below.

Do you have a fan in the incubator?
If the fan isn't strong enough then you will have higher temps up top.
If the fan is too strong you will probably have higher temps on the bottom of the inc, which is why we use a rheostat on our incubator fans.
Infinite control of fan speed allows you to fine tune the air flow so all shelves end up about the same temperature.
Pictures would help.

i have water bottles where i can which is about 15litres which isnt much but its better than none and thats right at the bottom of the incubator as i couldnt put them anywhere else but the bottom tubs of the incubator where colder than the top before i put the water in anyway
i have a pc fan which i thought was stronger than i needed, it sucks the air from the top and blows it along the back of the incubator to circulate the air everywhere but mostly forcing the air down to the bottom of the incubator
would it be okay for the tubs to drop about 4F for 25-30minutes? obviously increasing by 1F every 8mins or so for when i exchange the air?
also is the temps really bad to fluctuate by 1 or 2F? what bad affect would it have on the eggs/hatchlings
cheers, gary

Obviously you want to keep temps fluctuations to a minimun but I cant imagine that a 1-2 shift would be detrimental. As for the 4 degree drop for 30 min, Im not sure but I would guess that no that is not a big deal as long as it recovers fast enough.

Mine will drop 4-5 degrees for a short period of time after opening. I dont measure temps within the tubs though only inside the incubator itself.
