At what level do I attach temperature gauges?

I just bought an indoor/outdoor thermometer today. Where in the tank do I attach the probe and the temp gauge? The probe is on the hot side and it's about 2-3 inches from the top and the light source. The temp gauge is on the cool side and about 2 inches from top of cage. I plan on adding another light source to the cool side as I cannot get the temp to good level on that side.

And yes, I am a noob

I like to keep the probes under the hides it is after all where the snake spends most of its time.

I would completely remove the foam tape from the probe . If your snake sticks himself to it you will be in trouble.

This is how I have mine set up:

The Unit is mounted on the cool side.

The probe is directly under the heat lamp.

I then place one of my hides directly over the probe on the hot side.

How do you secure the probe to the bottom of your enclosure?

I don't just place the hide on top. it wiggles around some but just put it back Thermostat probes MUST not more but thermometer probes it doesn't make that much difference.

My cages are made out of PVC, so I just screw the sensor in place. But kitedemon is right therometer probes don't need to be secured the way thermostat probes do. Back when I used glass tanks with aspen bedding I just buried the sensor right under the surface of the aspen. The sensor didn't move around too much and seemed to work really well.
