    Melamine rack help

Okay I see people have made snake racks out of melamine. My brother and dad make custom cabinets and have melamine at the shop. I am only going to have one snake while living here but I need something to put the snake on. I was just wondering if you've ever had any problems with burning or fire on the melamine? I am going to use either a UTH or flexwatt. I am slightly afraid of fire so the less of a chance there is the better. I realize the tub will be lifted slightly so it won't be directly on the melamine but still....I'm worried. I really want a nice rack that I can put my snake and supplies on. =)

    Is it safe?

    Re: Melamine rack help

People use Melamine specifically because it is so good with heat and so resistant to fire. I'm pretty sure that if you light a piece of it on fire, it goes out and doesn't burn. I could be wrong on the second part. Either way, you're good to go... I, like many others, have flexx watt taped directly to the melamine with issues.

You need to use a thermostat with any uth or flexwatt to protect the animal, so burning the melamine will not be an issue.

get flexwatt and a thermostat. Just because it is resistant to it doesnt mean it wont or cant happen.

Yes its more than safe if you have it hooked up to a t-stat. You wont have it set to more than 90-95 (depending on the thickness of your tub). Our bodies temps are 98.6 and when we touch a piece of melanine it doesnt catch on fire so youre good lol. The key is to buy a quality t-stat. I have a Vivarium Electronics, VE-200 model, and absolutely love it.

Thanks! Everyone is recommending flexwatt so I guess flexwatt it is! lol I am also going to get a VE-100 thermostat. I think that should be okay.

It's good that I don't have to buy a rack I can just have my dad make me one! haha Cool.
