    Mom's with Reptiles?

Any Mom's out there who own snakes or other reptiles? I feel like I am in a great minority being a SAHM of two young children who also enjoys the herp hobby. I own 5 BP's and an albino Boa. Just curious if there are any others out there like myself? If so, do you share with other Mom's what your hobby is, or do you keep it to yourself mostly? I find that since a lot of women are not fond of snakes, I keep it to myself mostly. It is a lonely pursuit for me at this point without other women to share my enthusiasm with. Do you feel it is a positive thing for your children to see you enjoying this hobby? I do.

While my mother doesn't own any snakes herself I find her playing with mine on a very regular basis. I come home from work and find her in my reptile room with one of my snakes in her hands. There have been times where I had to ask her if she has her own home because she was over so often. I truly believe if she didn't work so much she would have a few reptiles of her own.

Four Leo's, two Carpet pythons and a Greek tortoise here. My son got a Leo seven years ago and, well, yeah. He has a Corn and BRB too, they live with me now as he is all over the place for work. Mmmhmm, full house. Love it
The dog feels out of place I think.

    Re: Mom's with Reptiles?

    ~waves~

Mom here. I only have five snakes because of hubby's military career, but if/when we ever retire and settle someplace permanently, I'll eventually have a lot more critters. Mostly snakes and tortoises, which are my top loves, but there's so much to love in all the species!

My husband doesn't like them. My sons are indifferent to them. And my daughter, who was the only other one in the family with a real interest has moved out of the nest. So it's just me.

Mostly I get to live vicariously through my work here at BP.net and all my herping friends.

    Re: Mom's with Reptiles?

I'm a "mom" with reptiles and also from Michigan. I have 6 bp's and 1 milksnake. I can honestly say that none of my friends share my interest in snakes - they all think I am crazy - lol

Since you are also from MI - do you attend the local Taylor Reptile Show?? I try to go every month. I enjoy just looking at all the different reptiles. My boys go with me sometimes also - its hard to find things to do that we all enjoy now that my boys are grown but reptiles is something we all agree on.

I'm a mom of three boys, and luckily my husband shares my love of snakes. We're even going to breed in the near future. We've got 8 snakes right now, two of them being rescues for my snake rescue organization, so they'll be finding homes once i'm sure they're healthy and eating well. My husband is also buying me 8 more snakes for my breeding project. It's going to be a lot of hard work, but i'm a SAHM as well, so i've got time time. Glad to know i'm not the only repti-mom out there!!!

I have two BPs, a Dumeril, and a three year old boy. I loves all our critters and I hope that having him grow up with herps will instill the same love in him. He has a plush boa thats about three times as big as him that he drags every where. He hugs it close and calls it Leela (after our boa). Silly kiddo keeps me on my toes. But, yeah- I'm a stay at home mom with snakes

I'm the only one of my female friends that doesn't have a child. I'm the resident babysitter for all of them. None of them mind that I have snakes (2 boas, 2 carpet pythons, 9 BPs and a pueblan milksnake). A few of them have actually started bringing over THEIR other friends with their kids so that they can go to the "Zoo".

If I ever have a child - I will always keep my pets. We already have pretty strict rules regarding the snakes and the kids, that'll just continue into day to day activities. I feel it is a spectacular way to introduce children to the fact that all animals are deserving of our love, not just the fuzzy ones.
