Oh geeze, that's an extreme kink IMO! How did NO ONE see this while packaging her for shipping and why did NO ONE say anything before they shipped her?

I hope you get a full refund. There's so many good sellers out there to go to and because of the mites and the kink I can't say I'll be going to BHB for any snakes in the future.

Thats what I'm saying! They wouldn't know if her head was missing even if they had bifocals.

i did get a nice black pastel male from special k reptiles this weekend though... mite free

Thanks for coming forward Dave. From the post on Fauna it seems like some people think it's pretty much okay for larger breeder to ship snakes with mites, just because they are so big and have people working for them. To me it doesn't matter how big or small you are you shouldn't be shipping animals that are not 100% healthy and that includes being mite free. I hope you don't get a major out break from the BHB snake and get them under control fast.

I have another pewter female coming in on Wednesday that I'm really excited about. She's already over 300g on empty and the breeder has great reviews on the BOI.

Sometimes things don't work out for a reason but being on mite alter in my QT room for the next month or two is going to suck.

Someone noticed, you can't sex this snake without noticing and it was sold as a female.

I did get my refund already but Lori won't answer my e-mails so I have no idea if the poor thing arrived okay.

I could possibly buy the comment that this kink was the result of bad incubation but there are a couple things that made me go "hmmm" about this next bit..

"Brian looked at the pictures and does not believe that the kink will pose a problem when breeding."
It seems like a pretty serious kink well above the cloaca, how could this not cause problems with a female trying to pass eggs? I also question how he would know such a kink wouldn't be an issue for breeding. Does he have hands on experience breeding animals thusly kinked? If he does I then wonder how they know this particular kink is the result of incubation.. I'm sure I'm inferring way too much but those two sentences just didn't sit right with me. If I produced an animal with a kink like that I'd give it away strictly as a pet to one of my family/friends who had no intention of breeding. As for the mites, I picked up a snake recently that had an infestation and I have two words for that, "NOT COOL!!".

It's sad to see a slip of this magnitude but at least it seems their customer service is top notch. This in no way excuses the kinked and mite infested shipment but it shows they're willing to make things right which gives them a bit of saving grace in my book.

I'm glad to see you posted something about the issue. I know others who have had bad deallings with them and other "big breeders", myself included. If everybody posted their experiences I bet we would start to see a trend.

I honestly try to steer clear of the "big breeders". I find it very hard to believe that all the animals receive the attention/care that they need when housing that many. I feel much more comfortable buying from smaller collectors/breeders that truly know the animal there selling and not just its price tag. Quality over Quantity...

Personally, I've never had any issues with Brian, his wife, or anyone at BHB for that matter. I've gotten many snakes from him over the years with no issues. Definitely sucks you had all that happen to you though.

Saw this on Fauna, then saw it here. Between the two forums, alot has been said, but my little addition is: I had a snake with a kink, a pewter ironically, and I gave it away for free to a person wanting a free pet snake. The kink was bad, shouldn't be used as a breeder, not that it could if anyone wanted to. That's what I did and would do again if a kinked snake came out of my clutch. I'm not saying BHB should have given the snake away for free, but shouldn't be sold as anything but a pet, and they would have been able to notice that kink to be able to make that call.
As for the mites: they should not be sending out snakes knowingly with mites. period. Yet anyone ordering from there should consider it may have mites and need quarantine, and if you aren't ready to deal with this possibility, don't order in the first place. I say this simply because in their videos they admit to having mites in their collection a couple times. They suggest it is under control and the fact that you got this guy with mites may suggest otherwise, but in any case we know there are mites in their facility. They were wrong for sending one out with mites, and though you were in no way wrong through any of this, anyone ordering them should be prepared for the possibility of mites before ordering.
Sorry you had a bad deal, but these things do happen... usually with a small time, in-it-for-the-money breeder, but luckily here it was BHB. I say luckily because you were given an option for a refund which the 'other guy' would never do, so count yourself lucky there. However I am saddened to hear it came from BHB, cause I would have given them more credit than that, but at least thanks to you, we now know.

I haven't Bought a snake from Brian but I have called in to ask about some balls and Brian answered and was super friendly and answered all of my questions "which were a lot". I know that one bad dealing is enough to deter most people from dealing with them again but at least they offered you half off or a full refund. I think it would be EXTREMELY difficult to keep all of their collection mite free. I'm sorry you had this bad experience . But they do a lot of good for the herp community with snake bytes "which is what got me into snakes in the first place" They give good information and make it fun. But the small breeders like who I got my ball from has better quality control for sure.
