Reptilebasics.com, coldbloddedcages.com, pretty much any reptile specialty store. Why can't you buy from amazon or ebay?

Nope, unless you have a reptile shop nearby you, but you'll pay much more in person than you would online.

Might be able to find the Hydrofarm tstat locally at a garden shop. Some hardware stores have them. Setup a dimmer temporarily much better than having a burnt snake. You just have to adjust it depending on temps in the house...

To be fair, most UTH setups work without a thermostat because if your enclosure is big enough, your snake will have no problem moving to the cooler side if it gets too hot. I haven't used a thermostat for years and it has worked just fine. Having a thick layer of substrate helps too. Snakes usually tend to burrow into the substrate to press up on the glass for warmth in my experience.

Why do you register on a site just to Necro a thread with HORRIBLE advice? Really? "Works fine for me" is another persons "I took your advice and it killed my snake". Jeebus.

    A) this thread is almost 8 years old....

    B) saying you don't need a thermostat is HORRIBLE advice. Google search snake burns...

It's our responsibility as keepers to keep our pets the best we can.

When I teach my niece how to ice skate hopefully she doesn't NEED a helmet, but you bet your butt she's gonna wear one... because it's MY RESPONSIBILITY to keep her safe. I would much rather have her safe and put her well being first. Maybe she never falls and hits her head, but maybe she does...shell be ok because her Uncle cared enough to get her a helmet...

Maybe your heating equipment never fails...but wouldn't you rather not take that chance???? I'd feel like a pretty HUGE ass if my snake was burned or killed because I couldn't be bothered to provide proper equipment to keep the animal safe. The snake doesn't have a choice, it's up to US to do the RIGHT thing.
