Quality is what gets you animals that people will want to buy.

I have normal adult females I'd much rather breed than a dirty browned out bee that will throw more dirty pastels and more dirty bee's.
I'd think twice about doing that pairing again.
Here's one of her sibs. I think he's pretty nice......

I've seen worse I give you that, but it will be pretty brown as an adult, those high white sides save it some in the looks department, but the pastel used in this breeding is not doing you any favors.

A nice bee will have as few brown spots on it as possible...

WOW....thanks for ruining my party. It's my first time producing morphs, so I'm sure things will only get better.

I'm SURE the bee in your pics isn't the first one you produced. Quit hatin'

.......and yes, your bee is SMOKING but sadly it is missing the high white sides.

My first season producing bees, they aren't exactly my ideal bee as you mention they could be higher white.

My intentions aren't to ruin your parade, please don't take it that way.
I'm just showing you that quality is important if you want to have people knocking down your door to buy your babies.

I have no doubt that if you're passionate about breeding you'll only get better at what you do

Your whole clutch was that nice of quality? Thats Awesome for your first go round on the bees. Sadly at this time I can't invest in a high quality pastel or citrus at the moment, so I'll have to work with what I have for now....

    Thanks!
I give the credit to my good from Rob for purchasing them as babies from VPI, he chose some nice parents.

The clutch had nothing but this and better quality, none were anything but very nice examples of their particular morph.

The pairing was Lesser X Blonde Bee

    A few of the offspring

    Lesser male

Pastel lesser female that I kept

    Lesserbee

Bee female showing some browning but not too bad

Good luck to you in your breeding adventures

Damn Jerry, that was a sweet pairing and some sweet babies. Did you use the spotless lesser male? Does your bee have alot of spots? Suprised at the spots on the lesserbee since I saw the lesser that prob made it.

I agree that I would prefer a stunner normal over a sub par 2 gene breeder. Don't forget that it takes 2 to tango and both add some flavor to the mix.

To the OP, the second bee is much nicer but will still brown. The key to avoiding that is to not buy a browned out pastel, or one from a browned out parent. All pastels will brown, but some less then others. I would not buy a pastel with alot of tan, pink or orange as it will only brown with age. I have a number of pastels and one I picked for her neon yellows even though she has alittle more brown as an adult then I care for, another is so light she looks almost white and another is right inbetween with better yellows less brown and much lighter. Pastels are the morphs I would be the pickiest with, there are more to choose from and the differance in quality is much more apparent in combos. Best of luck with whatever you decide to do.
