I'm very picky when it comes to music, but I am definitely a progressive metal fan (especially that of Finnish and Swedish pedigree) and I have a lot of respect for most classical composers. Actual talent and the ability to actually play their instruments is a must. I won't go into my feelings for rap, techno and all this popular modern music made on a computer other than to say I HATE IT!

    A few bands I like:

Opeth, Turbid North, Soulfallen, Kalmah, Necrophagist, Tool, Obscura, Daylight Dies, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, All That Remains, Shadows Fall, Lamb Of God, Dream Theater, Iced Earth, Agolloch, Edge Of Sanity and tons of bands that will never get any radio play.

I listen to a wide variety of music, and actually perform classical music (viola) with a local symphony... but to be honest, I only listen to classical when I'm studying a current piece. Usually I listen to '90s grunge/alternative, classic (primarily '70s) rock, and select "top 40" songs. Sadly my favorite band of all time, R.E.M., just announced their breakup - so I'm still in a bit of mourning over that. Some of my other favorites:

    Nirvana
    Red Hot Chili Peppers
    Pink Floyd
    The Pixies
    Grateful Dead
    John Lennon
    Elton John
    Billy Joel
    Santana
    Bob Marley
    Stevie Ray Vaughan
    The Rolling Stones
    Sublime

How is creating music with pre-engineered, and custom audio samples NOT talent? It does what its supposed to do IMO. It gets people in the mood to jump around and let loose. I looove doing certain things while bobbing my head listening to some awesome hardstyle techno like headhunterz

I looove dream theater, tool, all that remains, and all that kind of sound a lot, but i enjoy cruising while listening to immortal technique or some dre ;p. i love and appreciate it all!

    Metal and Classical music.

Inside the Metal Genre, I'm a sucker for Old School Thrash (OLD Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer, Destruction, Nuclear Assault, blah blah blah), but the NEW Wave of thrash that is rising (very similar to old school) is pretty darn awesome, the main 2 bands that come to mind are Warbringer and Exmortus. Also, I like Groove Metal (Mainly Lamb of God and Pantera). However I quite like Melodic Death Metal (Mainly Dethklok, and Children of Bodom (when I'm in mood for raspy voices and guitars), Can't say no to some Old School Death Metal and Black Metal.

YET, you WON'T EVER find me listening to: Metalcore, Nu-metal, Djent (except for Meshuggah), and all the new crappy -core subgenres... nor Slipknot.
No offense but I hate all those bands to death'

Inside of the Classical Music, I love pretty much all periods, but Mainly Romanticism, Classicism and Renascence.

oh, and I also HATE TO DEATH: Reggaeton, and Electronic Music, IDK, after taking some music classes (history, appreciation, theory, blah blah) in college, my criteria for music has become even stricter
