I'm sorry, VEXER, I don't have any beef with you, but this thread is ridiculous.
What do you think gives you the right to be so downright disrespectful and rude to the people replying to a thread that YOU created in a PUBLIC forum?
I didn't see anyone here being rude, they were just responding in the way they saw fit.
Obviously Im not stupid and I know you can buy them used. I was referring to brand new racks. And yeah go look at any real rack with more then 4 bins in it. If you were wanting to breed, to have enough bins for a actual breeding process, it cost so much and craftsmanship and labor. So you think they what have their own metal shopes and do it all by hand? Um no. They are all manufactured. Just like cars? Im not asking any one to fix a rack so that makes no sense and if its like buying a new car, well new cars are MANUFACTURED. So please next time you want to talk to someone like an idiot. Find one first. Oh and I was talking about full racks not 4 bin racks which is what your talking about if its brand new.
(PS there are 10+ bin racks that are under 400$ fyi, which is what they were referring to)
When you got so insulted by the person that suggested they had bought a rack used, they were not mocking you, insulting you, making fun of your thread ... they were simply stating that they got a great price by buying used. Why do you have a problem with that?
All of the other responses in this thread have either been responding to your initial question, and quite honestly most of them are, or they are in response to your unneeded attitude.
Thanks for all of your points. For those of you who think I was being rude for my one comment we you are intitled to your own opinion. Because obviously I know you can buy anything for cheap and for any budget. I thought it was obvious that I was talking about freedom breeders and other nice racks that are manufactured and not had built. All I was saying is that I work full time and I enjoy building things. I get a sense of joy out of creating things. Probably the same feeling that most of you get when you get that new clutch. I understand that obviously that some people can afford these racks and I could if I wanted to I just dont want to. And dont think you can calculate your own personal labor into the cost of your rack unless you were planning on selling it. Now if it is only like $40 bucks more to just buy it, well obviously just buy. And If every hour of your free time is worth $50 then I dont even want to know why your free time is that limited. But I guess everyone has their own opinions on how they look at this post. It just became much more than I was personally trying to talk about. So this thread is garbage to me now.
P.S. Thanks for the few of you who actually understood what I was talking about in this thread and sorry if it offended any of you who spent that much money on a rack. In some cases I understand but to me I could make any rack Ive seen for half the price.
(The people talking about $40 price difference were referring to premade racks brand new ... I don't see how this doesn't pertain to your original question by the way.... all I saw were completely honest constructive answers)
Go back and read through the posts you wrote. You need to calm down. You may sit here and say "I'm fine, I'm not even mad, I'm just annoyed" ... okay ... fine .. but why are you writing all of these disrespectful posts to the good hearted members of bp.net? There is NO reason to say anything negative in this thread and no one has said anything negative to you, without responding to the way you got all worked up. And honestly I think people have been quite nice about it.
Next time you read a post that upsets you, sit back, take a deep breath, and reread it. Think to yourself, was this person saying something negative to me? Should I really be taking it personally? You keep talking about how you have been trying to stay away from this thread and bp.net, but why? What is really making you angry here? Is it just because you feel bad for the way you responded because I can understand that, but the other replies people were giving you were completely related to the question you asked.... People were only rude after you began to be rude on page one, but they went on to answer your question.
You can try and continue to be defensive about it, but I would encourage you to be the mature adult you can be and realize that you have been a little rude to the bp.net family. You don't just start saying things like "same thing over and over" and "sarcastic remarks" ... really? Because I didn't see any. You read too much in between the lines. Stop trying to make things less literal than they are.
The thing that bothers me most is that you continue to go on and on about how people are repeating things or not answering your question, but I just read through this whole thread and 95%+ of the posts are answering your question, whether they are repeating or not. I really don't see how you got so offended. And don't take this as an attack, please take it as constructive criticism and please evaluate how to respond to others here. This is a close-knit community and we don't take well to people being negative for no reason, or responding the way you did because you assumed a member was being sarcastic just because they suggested buying used. This is a public thread for EVERYONE to see, not just you, and it was a great suggestion. Some people may not even think about looking for a used snake rack, until it was brought up, and that user was not sarcastic in the least towards you.
Personally, I recently looked at the price of racks a little differently when I started thinking about how much they cost in comparison to what I can build myself.
Currently I operate my snakes on a couple plastic shelving units put together and added heattape and a thermostat and I only spent about $250, but it's not the perfect size, it's bulky, and I have to use lids on all of my tubs. It works for me right now, but in the future I plan on buying something a bit nicer. And the DIY melamine racks in my eyes really are not worth it. As others have stated, they end up costing about the same if not more and are very heavy.
