Good news is I got my computer to work (It seems to turn on when it feels like it and does a start up repair then then magically works until I shut it off or it goes into sleep mode.) Bad news is my pics came out crappy but they are better then nothing. I will try to take better ones at some point.

No new pics of her though as she is in her hide and still hardening up. I can see that it looks like she is finally starting to get her adult coloring and not the colors in the molt pictured

Pocilotheria ornata (all the pics came out horrible so I picked a couple of the best ones):




And like I said I will be getting a Poecilotheria metallica and Poecilotheria rufilata also in a coule weeks. Might add a Poecilotheria tigrinawesseli to that order also if I can. All of those are between 2-3" or so I believe. This should be my last T shipment for awhile until the weather gets nice again next year. I will post pics when I get them (hopefully better pics then these ones)

Don't know what I'm looking at on that molt but I love the ornata. Are p. metallica slings hard to keep? I'd love to know everything about them you can PM me if you don't want to derail your own thread.

Anyone can derail any of my threads at any time!!! It never bothers me personally at all So feel free to ask me whatever you want in any of my threads!! IMO they are not hard to keep. They are very fast and skiddish though. They are photosensitive and like all pokies have some very strong venom. They are said to be one of the more docile types of pokie to work with. 2 P. Metallica slings were my FIRST pokies and my first old world tarantulas for that matter that I ever worked with. I personally did not have a single problem. I did a lot of reading on them (bite reports and anything I could) and watched a ton of videos before hand. I had worked with lots of other tarantulas befor I got them though (just not Old Worlds).

If you're not handling them how likely are you to get bit? I read something about slings dying a lot because of not being properly misted - how often do you mist yours? Have you heard anything like that? Any pokie specific information sources? I'm sure I'll come up with more.

Photosensetive = They really do not like light.

You can possibly get bit durring cage feedings, cleanings, any time you open the lid, cage transfers, breeding etc.

The humidity is naturally high where I am. I rarely ever mist my P. metallicas but they always have a nice size full water dish at all times.

I have heard of the humidity issue yes. Mainly with avics and species that require really high humidity.

If you search aracnoboards and surf youtube videos you can find a wealth of information (you have the weed through the crappy info though).

Yeah after I asked I found a bite report from Sweden. It sounds like a scary experience. Is it suggested to go to the hospital for a bite? I'm having trouble figuring that out from TKG. Ouch! It looks like there was some damage done to him. What sort of force do T's bite with?

They can't do much for you at the hospital but I would go to get checked out and get muscle relaxers for all the cramping. Getting bit by a pokie does NOT sound like a pleasurable experience at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not to mention you have symptoms from the bite for weeks after. I don't know about the force but the longer the fangs the more possiable mechanical damage they can do to you. Plus whatever bacteria are on the fangs.
