Citrus Whiteout Fader Pastel Thing
I know there are already threads on this ... I've read them, but I feel like the information is in bits and pieces and I'm trying to get a sense of the whole story.
My questions are:
1. Are citrus, fader, whiteout all the same thing?
2. Are they alleles on the pastel locus, or is it a gene that can be separated from pastel? (A "hidden gene," if you will )
3. Is the wacky stuff produced with citrus consistently produced, or is it random? In other words, if I bred citrus x lesser, would all of the citrus lessers be wild looking or would some be bland?
3b., if some are bland-looking, do those carry the citrus trait unexpressed, and can they produce wacky citrus stuff? Or are they a dead end?
4. Is there any way to distinguish a "citrus pastel" from a regular pastel?
and finally, 5. Is this one of those genes that lightens up as it ages?
I have seen a number of these up for sale, and pricing seems to be all over the place. I'm interested in breaking into them, as I love the crazy stuff you can make, but I'm hesitant without knowing the whole story -- especially since I'm having a hard time distinguishing a heterozygous citrus from a regular ol' pastel.
Thanks all!

I've been thinking this for a long time.
Is Citrus Whiteout the same as a Citrus? Which means it's just a Pastel or what? From my understanding it's just a Pastel, except a very expensive one.

I'm not sure if they are the same thing or not. I do know that the Whiteout gene is a gene on its own that when bred to a Citrus Pastel, it bonds itself to the Pastel gene and will not seperate from that point on. No matter what the breeding is, it can't be isolated. I heard that the HG Woma is the same way. I guess Kevin says it was a wild caught snake that was bred to his woma looking thing and it bonded to the gene and can't be seperated again.

Re: Citrus Whiteout Fader Pastel Thing
This is what I was told at tinley by someone who works with them. I know nothing first hand.
Breed a citrus whiteout to something, some babies look like whiteout some do not. The gene does separate from the pastel and does some different things with other morphs (he didn't say what). The non-whiteout pastels however can make other whiteout animals sometimes. thats the big mystery part of the gene I guess.
The HG woma (some refering to it as woma type II)is an entirely different morph than a woma, there no hidden gene, it was a thought originally when trying to figure it out. The name stuck

Talk to Clark from Clarks geckos....He will explain it all. Of course at this point it is all theory, but, he has a good insight on it. The way your explaining the non whiteout animals producing whiteout animals clearly supports the theory that the gene is still present and connot be seperated.

i was told it can be isolated from the pastel gene however. but like you said it sounds to be all theory right now. I wish I remembered the name of the guy I talked to, his table had quite a few white out things. Very interesting gene.

Sounds like maybe it still isn't clear what's going on, even to those who are working with them ..?
Think I will have to keep asking around on it; thanks guys!
