Twins? Different dads?

They are fraternal twins meaning there were TWO eggs inside ONE shell. Each baby was fertilized individually which means they COULD have different fathers. If the babies were identical twins, they could only have ONE father because there was only ONE egg inside ONE shell.

What confuses me here is that I was under the impression that in-egg twins only occurred from an identical twinning. neat stuff.

Thanks everyone! I'm a little paranoid because I had a baby die in the egg in my last clutch during the last few days after I cut. That's probably why I cut everyone a bigger hole. There on day 58, so they should be out soon. I thought they were both dead because they would not move. I think they were just a little shocked to see daylight. I have seen them both move since, so there is still hope. They are going to need lots of care because the average weight of these eggs were 72.25 grams. They are going to be tiny. It was their moms 1st clutch and she laid 8 eggs! She was only 1200 grams when she locked for the first time.

I once had a ball python clutch with two eggs with twins. All four were very small when they first hatched, but all did just as well as their other clutch-mates.

To say it another way, they are different morphs, so you know that there must have been two separate fertilization events. So, I think it's entirely possible that two different fathers could have sired them. (I don't know that they did, in this case, but if you bred two males to the same dam it should be theoretically possible.)

Thanks everyone for the input They are doing good so far! They both have their heads pointed up. I hope that they will be sticking them out soon! I'm wondering now if they will be the same sex.
