Krylon spray paint? I've never used any paints, but I would seal it somehow if it's toxic...
Is the stick a climbing branch? I wouldn't paint it, but if you do I recommend sealing it somehow to prevent water from getting the paint wet and it flaking off.

Those temperatures should be fine. Spikes 100F+ are what get dangerous.
