Usually I let them thaw overnight in the fridge, and then I take them out like 3 hours prior to feeding so they can be at room temp, and right before feeding I apply a little bit of heat until the head reaches 90-93 degrees. Works fine everytime.

Last night I was in a hurry, so I decided to put the rat in hot water to accelerate the heating process (it was already thawed), but I left it for too long in the water... And nasty stuff happened...

Don't be sad. I was just poking fun. Those two are just exceptional animals from a great breeder. I also have one from another breeder that was hatched June 5th. He is only 134g. Some are just slower growers than others. Wait til she hits a growth spurt. It'll blow your mind!

    How is the hairless doing?
Hey stranger! We've messaged ya a few times recently and never heard back from yall. The two I mentioned are indeed the ones we got from yall. We couldn't be happier with them. To those reading this post, we highly recommend these guys! Awesome folks to deal with!

The hairless has had skin issues. He is very sensitive to almost all bedding. We keep him on shredded newspaper otherwise he will scratch himself non-stop. He still scratches a lot and has scabs on his shoulders. Other than that he is nice and chunky and after this post I gotta go clean that rack. Oh joy!

I actually would have thrown that rat out. Meat's okay after 3 days in the fridge, but that's CLEANED meat. You know how big game hunters clean their animals and throw out the intestines as quickly as possible after they shoot it? Because the acid in the guts will rot the meat much faster than it would otherwise? A rat is whole, guts and all, so it'll spoil faster than a chicken breast or a steak in the fridge.

And I bet that's why it exploded in the hot water bath, too.

(But I've fed my guys exploded mice that I've forgotten about for a few hours, or left under the heat lamp for a bit too long. And they've been perfectly fine. Generally, if it's questionable but not obviously bad, I let them be the judge. If they take it, great! If they give it the evil eye and duck their heads, then I pitch it.)
