Custom Cage Sizes
Alright, so I'm planning on the construction of homemade, stackable cages with my brother(he's an engineering genius, but he does art and computer/tech related stuff for a living) and I need a general outline of what they should contain, their dimensions, etc. I'm doing this so that I'll be able to maintain a long term collection of 3-4, maybe 5 snakes, whether or not they're ball pythons. I might get a bit of variety(I'm going to assume carpet pythons and corn snakes require the same amount of living space, correct? I know for a fact that corn snakes get anywhere from 4-5 feet, so that seems like it would be suitable for a custom tank. Do carpet pythons get around 6 feet?)
First of all, I have a dimension in mind for the stackable cages, and I want to know if it's suitable. As far as I know, since they're terrestrial, it's really only floor space that matters. I don't want it to be too wide, as it needs to match the depth of my furniture. I also don't mind lengthening, but I'm not going over 5 feet. Is the height fine, or should it be 1.5'?
4'L x 1.5'W x 1'H
Thanks. Any advice on planning out these cages for future snakes would be great!

Not really.
Depending on the carpet you get you are looking at
Jungle 5 to 7 feet.
Coastals 7 to 9 feet.
IJ 4 and half to 6 feet.

Alright, thanks. I had about 6 square feet of surface space in my example, is that too much for a cage constructed just for ball pythons? I want them to use minimal space if possible. I was intending for multipurpose cages, but it's not necessary. I can construct a larger cage or set later if needed.
I have a few more questions I forgot to include. Is there a specific thickness I should use for the sides(I'm especially curious about the bottom as to include a uth)? Also, is plexiglass suitable for the front/door?

48x18x12 is just right for ground snakes like corns and BPs, but carpets need more height, being climbers. Your best bet would be to either build a combo of cages (2 at 12" high and 2 at 16" or something like that), or build them one at a time to suit your needs, but make sure the design keeps them stackable.
For my cages (I build custom cages), I use exterior top grade plywood of either 1/2" or 3/4" thickness (thicker for stronger, larger snakes of course). The doors are most often plexiglass/acrylic with wood framing (for hinge and handle attachment).
For flooring/heating, I use UTH pads (with holes drilled under where it would sit for the needed ventilation) on the wood, then cover the whole floor with vinyl flooring and seal the edges, but not adhere the vinyl down. That way, you can lift up the flooring to get to the UTHs if need be with little effort.
Here are some pics of my cages:

Thanks for the tips - although I'm going to wait for more opinions and methods before I make a concise decision.
How heavy are the individual white cages in the second photo? I really like what you've done there. How much did it cost to make the cages, and how much time did you put into each one(The white cages)?
Do you have them linked together somehow, or are they just resting on top of each other?
Edit: I forgot to ask; How much ventilation did you install on the sides? I don't want to have it be overkill.
