Another breeding weight question

I apologize, I misread your original post, no need to get all wound up, I see now you stated you have an 800 gram female who WILL be ready to go. I hope you can accept my apology. However, to the original poster, I still stand by my statements.

Me too, I have just reread and now see the same thing, she will be ready and not that you would breed her at 800g, my appologies mate.

Thanks for the replies guys. This particular snake is an early 2010 model. I was thinking next fall (2012) as "season". I would also like her to be at least 1500 grams if not heavier. She has been taking a 50-70 gram rat every five days pretty consistently and gained 150 grams this past month. She hates to be handled though so I leave her be. She is super fast for a bp also. She is a spider and has a moderate wobble when I handle her and while feeding but no other time. The male I want to pair her with is about the same size and is my garbage can man and eats all the left overs This is my largest female and really am excited to see my first bp eggies.

With Breeding right around corner for some, Most including myself are moving females feeding to every 3 days to bulk them for winter before they go on their fast once they ovulate.

The male i would yield caution to feeding him the leftovers. Fat large males i notice are lazy breeders. This time of year males here are fed once every 10 days from their regular 7 day schedule.

Feeding frequently (small rats every 5 days) Should bump her up to weight and she Should be ready for January/February breeding... Of course You need to remember about her being minimum two years old.. Weigh is not everything.. sexual maturity play it's role here as well

There is A 2 year rule? Or is this just a preference? I have a female who is a August 2010. She is growing like a weed. I am gonna wait till she hits 1400 grams before pairing her up. I think she will hit there by new years and wont be 2 years. Is that bad?

Hmmmm, something to think about there. However, this male is not fat and is not lazy. He would try to kill me if I did not feed him for 10 days lol. No its not bad, if female becomes gravid then she was sexually mature and ready.

Snakes can go months without food. Just need to ignore them as they are opportunistic feeders. They smell food they want it whether their hungry or not.

I have few males that will pace right after eating and some that will pace while im feeding the females. Every 10 days is perfectly fine for males.

I have to agree with rich on the weights. Do you honestly believe a large breeder will wait an extra year if they have a lot of money tied up into a female? I doubt it!

this year proved alot for me i breed any girl that was above 1200g.... not thinking they would all lay i had girls that where 1200g lay 6 good eggs... big eggs.... then i have my 2000g het albino lay 4 big eggs.... had a proven spider (1800g) lay all slugs..... every one has there own ideas on breeding.... nothing set in stone i agree with rich 100%
