Just brought my first snake home! Quick Question!
thanks alot for the info so far guys! shes in her new home and seems very happy. When it comes to the heating and lighting I was told to leave my full spectrum terrarium lamp on 12-15 hours a day on the "warm side" of the tank. But I'm confused as to when I should have my black nightlight incandescent bulb on, and where it should be located on the screen. Thank you so much for any help!

Since no one answered you yet, I'll jump in. Did you get an under tank heater?
How many gallons is the tank? Do you have a thermostat or dimmer? What are your temps on hi and lo side? I wouldn't even use the full spectrum light, but use the black nightlight to regulate temps. You should get an under tank heat pad and therm or rheostat.

thanks so much for the reply. I'm going to get a heatpad tomorrow morning. Right now I just have the lamp above a piece of slate for basking. The nightlife bulb says it maintains 85-90 degrees, so im assuming i should keep that away from the cool hide at night. My tank is current a 20 gallon, dimensions are 30x12x12

Do you have a thermometer? That bulb could make the slate over 90 with no way to back off the heat. Be sure to get yourself a digital thermometer and maybe a dimmer for the bulb (home depot). Better to be a little cool for a nite than to cook him/her
