A little side note we have found is in using 6 qt tubs we get about a day shift either way depending on the number of eggs in the tub. 7 - 8 eggs in a tub normally go faster and 5-6 is the normal. Anything below 4 tends to take an extra day.

I think this is because as the eggs get closer to hatching they start some decomposition. This produces heat and with a lot of eggs in the tub it adds up.

Okay, current plan is: wait for pips until day 60, and then cut.

I don't know if cutting will actually speed them getting out of the eggs, but at least I'll know what's in the eggs, and if it's healthy... cutting on day 60 is probably safe, right?

I'm sure It will be ok. Make sure you remember the maintenance of the cut eggs in case they still do have a few days to go. It doesn't speed up the time when the little ones come Out. That's why I like to Just wait
and cut when Theres a pipper.

Did you have to do saline washes during all those extra days to prevent bacterial growth, or were they fine without it? (Don't worry, Homegrown, I understand that's just luck.)

    Day 60!

We cut last night when two of the eggs stopped moving. And then the lav decided it didn't like the hole we made and cut its own a couple hours later.

    Re: hatch day?

87 isn't that bad. 84-85 would concern me. I cut at day 45 because of stupidity. I'm at day 45 now and I've already slapped myself twice this morning for thinking of such stupidity again. Lol.
