What would be good "snake" glove?

All the snake gloves I have seen that are called "Snake Gloves" seem to be aimed at venomous snakes and are awful expensive. I don't think I need that much protection. So would regular old work gloves (ones that protect you from broken glass an such) work as a good snake glove? Something that could handle an adult boa bite?

    Thanks.

    Adult boa bite? Probably nothing.

The only "snake gloves" I know of are actually hypodermic needle gloves, used in working with hots. They aren't fang-proof though, most of your large-fanged vipers/pit vipers can get through 'em.

THICK, TOUGH leather work gloves from the hardware store are your best bet.. or metal gauntlets

I only use gloves with bitey hatchlings, even though it doesn't really hurt much it does just mentally keep me calm and cut my "flinch" factor.

    --- non venomous ---
For a big Boa, Welding gloves.
    Smaller snakes, leather work gloves.
Never cotton or fabric, the fibers can get hung up in the teeth.

Re: What would be good "snake" glove?

I think you'd have a tough time finding gloves that could handle an adult boa bite, but thick leather gloves (and maybe a thick sweater to cover your arms) can serve as a cushion to some degree. At the very least, you'd end up pulling more teeth out of the glove than your hand.

I agree with what mainbutter said, when I wear gloves it's largely for peace of mind.

These are $30...Seem like they may work. They are made for handling falcon and other large birds, so I would think a snake would be nothing for these.

Just make sure they have some grip, I bought a pair for the same reason, and it's hard to get a grip with them.
