A Poor Suri who Doesn't Get Any Attention
If you know me, then you know I love to tell stories about everything. So here it goes. Enjoy!
To start off, the reason he doesn't get any attention is because he is been nothing short of mean. I got him from a really good guy and takes really good care of his snakes. I was told how tame he was and how handleable he was.
The last time I got pictures was when he arrived months and months ago (last April to be exact). The snake was so stressed out that he would go into a striking frenzy. I got tag by him multiple times. He would flee and attack at the same time . (Never seen this before so I was at a lost of what to do). Kept getting some advice from some of my RTB friends but nothing seemed to work.
Well, I moved him out of quarantine recently. Started spending a lot of time talking to him, touching him (which he would freak out about), holding other snakes in front of him, and everything. I couldn't even take him out of his cage for cleaning he was so bad. I got very inventive with cleaning. I also upped his prey size to the next size (medium rats). Figured maybe if he was ultra full, he wouldn't have the need to attack...lol
About a week ago, he was moving around his cage for really the first time since his arrival. He looked so beautiful, but yet so evil at the same time. lol I had this feeling that if I opened his cage, he might just crawl out onto my hand. Even though I had this feeling, I just didn't really feel like getting bit so I just watched him and left him alone.
Later that night, I had a dream that I held him and took him outside for pictures. I told my husband and he just laughed at me because it was obviously a dream. This snake will never be outside for pictures because he is such a jerk (but the other word forbidden on here..lol). So, I kept telling my husband and even told some friends that I needed to try to get him out because of that dream. It made me feel so much more confident.
Well, today was cleaning day. I got all the snakes out except the suri and the roswell (she is not much different from him but easier to move around, hence the lack of pictures of her also). I told Chris, I AM getting the suri out today. I got a HUGE gray tub to toss him into if I needed to. Chris just was like...um...ok.
I told Chris to back up, I reached in, tossed a pillow case over him (which never has worked before) and pulled him out. He didn't flee!!!! I just stood there with him in strike mode without him actually striking. Then he started moving around and exploring. I started getting excited. I held him for a while in the house and the whole time I wanted to jump up and down (but I had my evil snake on me and he wasn't being so evil so I had to refrain).
I got him outside for some pictures!!!! Yay!!! Yay!!! Yay!!! Yay!!! Can't you just feel how excited I am about this!!!!!
After leaving this snake alone for almost 5 months, I got to finally hold him and get some pictures. My dream was accurate. My dream told me it was time. (Now, let's just hope my tornado dream from last night doesn't come true....tornado watch today also...yikes!)
So here are some pictures noone has seen before!!!!

Now let's hope he breeds for me this year with Julliet!!! I am not going to lie, I was worried about how I was going to move him into her cage and out of it...lol But now, I know this IS going to happen on my part. Hoping it will happen on theirs.

Thanks for listening to my story!!!

I agree Evenstar!! He is just so beautiful. I am glad that I was finally able to get pictures of him since I have had him since April. His mean demeanor has created a lot of tension in this house with my husband wanting to get rid of him and me constantly getting bit. However, now I have held him and my husband even touched him...yay!

I can see it killing you not to handle him. he is STUNNING . all my boas are puppy dogs. I accually have a 3500 gram het pied female that is just how you explain yours. I don't even attempt to remove her anymore. I have to use my snake hook to aid me in not gettign bit when taking her out to clean her cage. She is that way because of how she was brought up. But its cool, lets me know that I am not ready for a hot lol

Man, sometimes it can just get frustrating. It took forever for him to let me hold him but I took FULL advantage of it...lol

Re: A Poor Suri who Doesn't Get Any Attention
Very nice looking Suri. I'm glad that you finally got to handle him. A couple of suggestions that I have are:
1) If you haven't already hook trained him, now would be a good time to.
2) For aggressive snakes, sometimes this will help. Each day, wear a shirt for a few hours, no colgne, perfume, etc. Then at night, place the shirt on or next to their tank/tub. That way they will get used to your scent and not identify it as a threat.
