    Getting comfortable?

So this morning I checked on Rio, when I walked into the room he was out and about slithering his way around his cage. I have a small water dish in there and a larger storage bowl on the warmer side in case he may want to soak and to keep the humidity up a bit. He has been laying across his water bowl letting pieces of his tummy sit in the water and he has been standing almost straight up and touching his nose to the lid. Is this kinda stuff normal? Is he exploring or is he just comfortable with where he is living and hes becoming more brave?

It sounds like he's enjoying his little "realm". It's good to be the king!

    Re: Getting comfortable?

My female BP "Miss Molly" acts the same way.
Miss Molly is heavier @ 2,450 grams and her water dish is a 5 quart glass baking dish.

So in other words, Yes this is normal.

    Harry
    0.1 normal 3,200 grams 5 feet long
100 gallon tank with 4 UTH
3 are thermostat controlled, the 4th one is constantly powered located directly under the water dish.
17" x 13" clear glass rectangular baking dish (5 quart) for her to soak in

I had asked the same question today noticing when I took out both of my ball pythons and one was doing the same thing, I was told it was trying to get a good look at the environment. I love seeing snakes do what yours was doing. I actually seen my snake yawn today it was great.

    Nice photo you got.

Some exploring is normal, but if the snake is extra active or is out a lot during the day, it can be a sign of stress.

Mine does that (yawn) from time to time, maybe she is bored in her tank.
She ate a small rat about a half hour ago then she yawned a couple of times just after the tail went down her throat.

^^^In this particular instance I think she is actually realigning her jaw after dislocating it for the rat to go down.

Icarney, mine do that the time also.
