How does the seller set that up? There's a FedEx location right down the road from me.

You have to get the address of the FedEx location and tell the shipper that you want them to have the package HELD at FedEx Location. Its HAL for short.

All of the above.. Or have the seller set up the shipment to be held at your nearest FedEx location if it's open until well after you get off work. That way the box will be sitting, undisturbed, inside the building and you just pick it up.

I've done this for customers before who could not be at home early in the afternoon.

Technically, unless you are delivering business to business, this is the way it's supposed to be done. Not my rules - FedEx's............their rules as of July 14, 2011:

Shipments must be from a business to a business (from a breeder to a pet store, for example).

The shipper must have its packaging tested and pre-approved by FedEx Packaging Design and Development for the type of animal being shipped. Call 1.800.633.7019 for assistance. It is the responsibility of the shipper to adequately package shipments for all temperature extremes and handling conditions.

Contact your FedEx account executive for details and additional requirements.

Yes, FedEx seems to not care about their own rule about only delivering live harmless reptiles to businesses, but if you are within driving distance to a hub - popping in first thing in the morning sure beats waiting around for a delivery.

Yes.. And then it's just a matter of the seller clicking that box when they set up the shipment through their account manager or through SYR. They should know how to do it if they are a good seller and have shipped before.

Its not that we don't care. Its just most shippers don't tell what they are shipping. Most of the time its just a pre-labeled box, that is scheduled for pickup and or just dropped off at a FedEx location. We don't inspect a package unless there is reason to believe that there is something dangerous or illegal in it. And even then we have to call our head of safety manager for the region and he flags the package and then they inspect it at the hub if they see reason to believe its dangerous or illegal. But often people don't tell us what is in it.

Some work places will allow you to have it shipped to your work. The times I have had them shipped to me I was in college, so I just skipped classes that morning. Now that I have a job, I plan to have them shipped to my parents house.

Since we moved out to a small town, I have them held for pick up at the Fed Ex hub in Omaha. I don't mind driving 45 minutes to make sure that they won't have to ride on a hot or freezing truck, and will be in a fairly stable environment until I get there.

ShipYourReptiles now has a deal with Fed Ex to allow reptile shipment to residences (it specifically says so), so anyone using SYR shipping can ship to a person's door. (I use them, even though I have a Fed Ex waiver, because the discount is substantial, and because they now offer live arrival insurance).

That's good to know. Although I used to have animals delivered to my house in boxes that were boldly marked "Live Harmless Reptile"..............

However when the rules were explained to me and I brought it up at our local hub, the manager there just shrugged it off.
