Shed Question

Petey just finished his first shed, most came off in 1 peice but looking at his tail there is about an inch still there. Should I go ahead and soak him or let that small area work itself off on its own?

How long ago exactly did he finish his shed? Is the piece wrapped all the way around the tail or is it just a small fragment? If it has been a day or more then I would let him soak in a warm (not hot) bath for about 20-30 minutes and then with a warm wet cloth gently rub his tail with it and let him slide through it. This should take care of the problem! You want to make sure you don't let it stay on that area for to long if it wraps all the way around the tail as it could lead to impaction and restricted blood flow to the area once it dries out.

Wow! Nice reply! Just for your info smart %$#, I have used the search engine and I do know about humidity. The humidity in his encloser is controlled by a humidistat/temp controller using a humidifier I made myself. Its set at 70% for his shed so no need to spray the encloser down. I didnt ask about humidity to start with just a small peice of shed on the tail. I think I'll take the advice of the previous nice poster and do a short soak.

Thanks for your helpful reply. He finished his shed on 7-27 and it looks like it goes all the way around. I'll try a soak tonite and see if that helps. Thanks again.

No problem! Just make sure whatever you soak him in isn't deeper then about 1/2 to 3/4 of his largest body girth. You don't want him have to swim the whole time and is safer in general. Some people just prefer to put them in a container and leave them be but, I prefer to watch mine just in case. You could also put a towel or rag in the soak with him which can also help the process when he crawls across it. Good luck and remember be gentle if you are working it off by hand or rag

I wanted to add that my pastel shed and had one piece half hanging and half stuck on his neck area. I did the soak thing and it worked great. I had to start a whole thread about it because it seemed like he knew what I was doing and started actually pushing his neck hard against the rag to get the rest of it off. Here's my story. So it works really well.
