Re: Where Do You Keep Your Rodents?

I currently breed mice but i have a trick where i use imitation vanilla in their water, they don't smell as bad but my mom just doesn't like the fact there are 40 mice down stairs so i guess i have to get a used shed!

I have a trailer we converted into the "rat room" outside. It works well, except we have to insulate it for the winter and make sure it doesn't leak. I built my own rat rack. I have found a small fan inside the room makes circulation and smell a lot better. We don't have a door on the "rat room" just a tarp that we open in the summer and down in the winter. The trailer idea works VERY well as you can move it at will. Our shed is only 8 x8 (or so I suck at dementions) so you can't have a lot of rats. Often you can find a cheap trailer and convert it. Also you can park it next to your house and run an extension cord for power to it.

Just make sure it doesn't get too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. I have found if they get too hot/cold they will stop or slow down on producing.

I have a nice big garage and my racks are in there along with all my feed and bedding supplies. We have mild weather up here in the NW although I usually keep a fan running most of the time for airflow.

    IN the rat barns...
They stink too much to put them in a living area.
